Today marks the beginning of the season for Hong Kong racing, and it all kicks off at Sha Tin Racecourse. The rail is in the ‘A’ Course which is the True position for those who are unfamiliar.
The start of the season has so many unknowns and it generally takes a month or so before form lines really begin to form, so early on will be a test and we will be keeping an eye on trainers who get their horses fighting fit early.

This looks a nice winnable race for this Flying Artie gelding after finishing last season with a tight second to YUEN LONG ELITE.
He has shown some talent in his two starts to date, and as he races more I think he will become quite a competitive horse in Class 4’s and Class 3’s. The one trial he has in this time in was quite nice in behind his stablemate.
He has drawn nicely to sit in a handy position, which I believe is going to be very beneficial this afternoon.

Could have made this guy the value runner at the price, but I think his chances are greatly enhanced with a positive draw.
In 5 career starts, he has yet to run better than fourth but in all 5 starts he has drawn barriers 14, 14, 13, 10 and 10. Today he draws barrier 5 with a positive jockey change which gives me confidence that he will sit a bit handier this afternoon.
He has always had talent, but each start he has been ridden cold due to the draw, and I reckon if he is close enough at the 300m mark, that he get his chance with a good pace on.

Gone with this Press Statement gelding in the final race as I strongly believe he will be suited to the Class drop, despite the poor draw.
He ended the season with a sixth placing over the 1400m which was his first go at said distance. He now comes back to the 1200m and gets Zac Purton back aboard for the first time since March. Purton’s record on the gelding is 5 starts for 3 wins and a placing, and he since trialled him well over the 1000m.
The issues as mentioned is the draw, but Purton generally isn’t a negative rider and Danny Shum generally has his horses ready early, so I think they press forward and make a race of it.

This bloke generally has some early toe which is going to be handy from barrier 8.
His first run was pretty good but just needed to sit closer in the run, which they did on start number 2, where he was too good for our best bet MY WISH, beating the rest of the field by 1.5L.
Strong trial in preparation for this and with the expectation of a positive ride, he will get the drop on the leader around 200m out and hopefully be too strong.
