Sha Tin racecourse is the venue for Sunday racing in Hong Kong where we have ten races on the card, including two on the dirt.
The feature comes up in race 7, which is the Group 3 Celebration Cup.
The rail is in the B+2 course for the entire circuit, and with lots of rain in the lead-up and on race day, I am expecting a Good-Yielding or Yielding track.
Today’s Sha Tin racing tips can be found below,

Race 9: #5 LUCY IN THE SKY
Next Best
Race 7: #6 CHIU CHOW SPIRIT
Roughie
Race 10: #5 SUPERB CAPITALIST
3:00pm
Distance: 1650m All-Weather | Class: C4 | Exp Tempo: Good – Slow
Starting the day with an All-Weather race in raining conditions, this isn’t going to be a race I play in.
LUCKY BANNER goes on top as a horse who has drawn well and maps to head forward.
His form on the All-Weather is just fair but he hasn’t been far away the last two times he was here over the 1650m
FOREVER FOLKS is the other I didn’t mind.
Numbers: 9 – 8 – 4 – 1
3:30pm
Distance: 1650m All-Weather | Class: C5 | Exp Tempo: Good
Another race I won’t be betting into, a replica of the first except it’s the lowest class.
MEDIC ELITE represents value at his current quote with Matthew Poon aboard.
He is a veteran in Class 5 though his racing pattern is what causes him concern. Mile is his best distance, so expect him to be flashing late.
Again, it’s hard to be enthusiastic here.
Numbers: 8 – 4 – 7 – 5
4:00pm
Distance: 1200m | Class: C4 | Exp Tempo: Good
STORMING DRAGON does look the one here but has come up a touch short on the market side of things.
He has been a model of consistency without winning, but will experience and his recent trials, Purton will have him in the right spot from the awkward gate.
FUN N FUN TOGETHER is the only logical danger in my eyes, and he has draw the outside gate, and SHOULD push forward.
I should be between the two of them.
Numbers: 5 – 4 – 2 – 3
4:30pm
Distance: 1200m | Class: 3YO C4 RST| Exp Tempo: Good
Another race that I have no enthusiasm for, as these are pretty much all Griffins stepping up into a restricted race.
SANTORINI is the on topper, favourite and has the runs on the board, hence the 60kg allocation.
CALIFORNIA MOXIE is the value of the the two.
He has come up an each way price despite having a run already in an open class 4 up the straight.
Numbers: 5 – 1 – 3 – 13
5:00pm
Distance: 1000m | Class: C4 | Exp Tempo: Good
PANDA is resuming this season following a luckless display in March last season.
Everywhere Purton went, he was met with walls and he stated after the race, the horse didn’t appreciate being amongst the field.
He has drawn towards the inside, which usually isn’t an advantage but I expect Purton to give him room out there to keep him comfortable.
DRAGON AIR FORCE is the other I like here, having his second race start.
He was good on debut, getting a second wind to finish fourth, giving me the indication he is looking for 1200m.
Numbers: 5 – 4 – 10 – 1
5:50pm
Distance: 1600m | Class: C3 | Exp Tempo: Good – Slow
Tough race this one.
TURIN STARSPANGLED finally gets to the mile following some ‘okay’ runs over 1400m.
He has trialled well enough with Purton on, who sticks on race day. We should see an improved performance.
UNIVERSAL HORIZON is also in the mix, coming back from Class 2.
Numbers: 8 – 3 – 9 – 10
6:20pm
Distance: 1400m | Class: 3YO+ G3 | Exp Tempo: Good – Slow
This looks a pretty good race, it’s a shame the bookies have given us very little.
CHIU CHOW SPIRIT has the run on the board already this season with an impressive victory.
He is still pretty progressive and he has already won at Group 3 level in Australia, plus he will have the fitness edge, maps well and has run well in the wet previously before coming to Hong Kong.
PACKING TREADMILL is the other who represents value. You could make a case for many of these.
Numbers: 6 – 4 – 2 – 3
RACE 8
6:50pm
Distance: 1400m | Class: C4 | Exp Tempo: Good
MASTER MASTERMIND had to go back from the draw first-up before making a solid run to finish 4.5L 4th.
He has drawn much better here, maps midfield and up to 1400m looks a nice move.
BALLISTIC WIN also has a run on the board this season, with a 1L 3rd over this track and distance.
He has performed well in the wet also, so that gives him an extra edge.
Numbers: 7 – 3 – 8 – 11
7:25pm
Distance: 1200m | Class: C3 | Exp Tempo: Good
This is a very interesting race.
LUCY IN THE SKY has been a model of consistency so far in his career, finishing in the top 2 5/6 times, winning 2 of them.
He has drawn well, maps well, won in the wet and carries a nice weight.
WUNDERBAR is the boom horse returning after a long stint on the sideline due to injury.
I have no doubt he is the best horse in this race, but 61kg after a long lay off in the wet doesn’t scream the $1.90 he has come up.
If he wins, he will be some horse considering what he has gone through, but I know he will be better after this and will be a contender for big races this season.
Numbers: 5 – 1 – 9 – 8
8:00pm
Distance: 1200m | Class: C2 | Exp Tempo: Good
Gone with SUPERB CAPITALIST in the last.
He has a run under his belt, where he finished 3rd to KA YING RISING in Class 1.
He meets COPARTNER PRANCE better off at the weights from their last encounter, and of course SUPERB CAPITALIST holds the fitness edge.
Definitely think he is value at his current quote.
YOUNG CHAMPION, FULL CREDIT and COPARTNER PRANCE are all progressive horses and any of them winning would not surprise me.
Numbers: 5 – 6 – 11 – 2
The Quadzilla
Leg: 3 – 4 – 6
Leg 2: 3 – 7 – 8
Leg 3: 1 – 5
Leg 4: 2 – 5 – 6 – 11
