Caulfield Race Tips & Analysis for August 17, 2024

Michael Kruse 16 August 2024 Last Updated: 17/08/24

The Caulfield racecourse is currently rated a good 4 and the rail is out 9m for the entire circuit.

And can i just say, how bloody good is it to have some quality fields back in action. Good orses, good tracks.

Saturday’s Caulfield racing tips can be found below,

Best Bet

Race 2: Distance: 1600m | Class: BM100 | Scheduled: 1:00pm | Expected Tempo: Above Average

#3 DEVOTED

RISE AT DAWN is just a beauty. jumps on the bunny and fights on tooth and nail.

He’s super fit and will be hard to beat again, KEATS might be a touch underdone first up and may just need the run.

In saying that, few trials, so a win at odds wouldn’t shock me.

DEVOTED was huge last start when we were on at a price, did it the hard way and kept finding, 2nd up today is only going to suit and he can improve off that.

He’s the one i want at the price, get stuck into him Stacky!

Next Best Tip

Race 6: Distance: 1100m | Class: G3 | Scheduled: 3:25pm | Expected Tempo: Solid

#1 DRIFTING

DRIFTING brings in some pretty hot form from up in Sydney.

Get’s the services of Mr Shinn which is a massive positive, she will be ready to go.

I think she wins.

Best Each Way/Roughie

Race 7: Distance: 1200m | Class: 4YO+ LR | Scheduled: 4:00pm | Expected Tempo: Above Average

#5 THE PEDRAGON & #10 VAGRANT

Where to look?

Options a plenty. MAOTAI was impressive first up down the straight and i suspect there is some improvement to come.

Finally starting to put it all together at the new stable?

THE PENDRAGON has trialled up well and is a super interesting runner, flopped in his AUS debut but maybe something a miss?

Was 2nd to Orchestral in NZ before coming over, stable have rang the great man and said jump aboard.

He could definitely give some cheek from the front, has the motor for further.

VAGRANT was really building last prep, if there’s pace on, and you can make up ground from the back, look out.

CASTE wouldnt surprise me either.

Other Thoughts/Value Selections

Race 1: Distance: 1100m | Class: BM84 | Scheduled: 12:25pm | Expected Tempo: Solid

Tricky little race to kick off proceedings.

Really is such an even bunch and just about any runner in this field could win it (captain obvious)

SUNSET DREAMING was huge behind Herbert Park first up. Was bumped around in the straight and kept coming.

Should be enough speed on here for him to peel wide and run over the top, Will be a watch on the track in the first and see how it plays.

MISS ICELANDIC could be very dangerous landing in a good spot from the map.

A LITTLE DEEP has been trialling well but she may land in a tricky spot but has the credentials.

RUN LIKE HELL could very do as her name suggests if they don’t go out too hard, touch over the odds imo.

I couldn’t recommend a bet with any REAL confidence, but if there was a gun to my head, #8 SUNSET DREAMING is the one i’d want, CUTE AS a knockout.

Selections: Nil.

Race 3: Distance: 1400m | Class: BM78 | Scheduled: 1:35pm | Expected Tempo: Solid

This looks a really open race.

LOVAZOU is humming and maps well, looks the obvious.

There ARE 2 horses that i can entertain at odds.

First one is GENTIAN BLUE, first start in AUS was a flop but that was on soft/heavy conditions which he doesn’t like.

Back on top of the ground, and previously ran 5th in a G1 in NZ, i suspect the stable have not brough him here for nothing?

$51 is a nice price to find out. Hopefully the leaders turn it on.

CHARISSE has come back in superb order, dominant win first up, gets in with no weight. Huge danger.

Import LE MANS could run a race but probably want’s it further and this won’t be the GF.

HAZEL BABY has to go in any multiples.

Selections: #2 GENTIAN BLUE & #14 CHARISSE

Race 4: Distance: 1100m | Class: BM74 | Scheduled: 2:10pm | Expected Tempo: Average

MANSIERE interested me early, wide barrier has scared me off a touch and have missed the early odds. Hrmm

I MISS MARGIE could run a good race in the lead and kick away, has trialled up well for this.

Nice price.

Nothing certain yet, might see how the track is playing but could entertain the above mentioned.

Selections: Nil

Race 5: Distance: 1100m | Class: G3 | Scheduled: 2:45pm | Expected Tempo: Solid

Small field here for the Vain Stakes,

Pretty even field. BAND OF BROTHERS with the blinkers on back to the 1100m could be dangerous.

But given how open this field seems it’s hard to recommend a bet with any real confidence.

Selections: Nil

Race 8: Distance: 1400m | Class: G2 | Scheduled: 4:35pm | Expected Tempo: Solid

Speed is going to be well and truly on here.

Big bad BUFFALO RIVER should take it up and can absolutely run a race at a price.

But i just think with the speed engaged it’s going to set up for those running on.

I think PERICLES is ready to go to a new level, maps perfectly, now this won’t be the GF, so will he be a touch underdone?

MUNHAMEK is as honest as they come and will hold a clear fitness edge.

Selections: #4 BUFFALO RIVER something small for mental health.

Race 9: Distance: 1400m | Class: BM84 | Scheduled: 5:15pm | Expected Tempo: Average

ELOUYOU looks great but is short enough for me to pass on.

3 at odds i thought you could make a case for was #1 RUNNING BY & #6 DANAUSTAR & #7 FLASH FEELING

All look to map really well and can pounce on ELOUYOU

Selections: #1 RUNNING BY & #6 DANUSTAR & #7 FLASH FEELING
