Australian races have been a real success in the World Pool and the Cox Plate is the latest Australian event to animate and excite World Pool bettors. After betting turnover from The Everest ($10.4 million) and Caulfield Cup ($10.95 million) exceeded even the most optimistic expectations, World Pool organizers eagerly anticipated the Cox Plate.

And Saturday’s race won by Romantic Warrior didn’t disappoint. Generating $12.10 million in betting turnover, it became the second highest-grossing event in the World Pool this year. It only trails the super-popular Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes ($13.36 million), part of Royal Ascot.

The World Pool Created Interest like Never Before

The Cox Plate generated more turnover than the Dubai World Cup ($11.06 million), the Caulfield Cup, and The Everest, which rank fourth and fifth respectively. The numbers suggest that the Cox Plate was also more popular than 211 other World Pool races run this year.

The success of the Cox Plate, Caulfield Cup, and The Everest means there are now three Australian events in the five highest-grossing races in the World Pool. Michael Fitzsimons, Executive Director of the Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC), said introducing the World Pool in Australia was “one of the major stories Down Under,” as it created “interest and attention like never before.”

Fitzsimons, who is also in charge of wagering products at the HKJC, expressed the organization’s delight with “the strong turnover figures” and the new record the Cox Plate generated.

He said he was sure that the World Pool would continue to be a success in Australia, and couldn’t wait for Victoria Derby Day to see what happens when “Australia’s best horses take to Flemington.”

World Pool bettors can wager on five types of bets – Win, Place, Quinella, Trifecta, and Duet, and all Flemington races on Saturday will offer World Pool betting.
