Kangaroos Find Silver Lining in 12-Match Losing Streak

Kangaroos coach Brett Ratten is trying hard to find positives in his team’s 12-match losing streak. The caretaker coach said he saw “elements of success” in North Melbourne’s performances despite going without a win in 12 games.

The Kangaroos recorded their last win in Round 2 when they beat the Dockers 73-72 at Optus Stadium. Since then, the North Melbourne side has gone two and a half months without a win, losing to the Hawks, Blues, Lions, Suns, Demons, and seven other AFL teams.

Coach Sees a Fair Bit of Growth

With the team not being involved in any AFL action until July 1 because of their mid-season bye, coach Ratten now has time to reflect on a terrible run of results and figure out what to do in the remaining games of the season.

The Kangaroos’ caretaker coach said there were elements of success and “a fair bit of growth,” despite the team only winning two games this season. Ratten was happy with the minutes and exposure some of the players got, saying that would help the team going forward.

The coach was probably referring to players like Harry Sheezel, Will Phillips, George Wardlaw, Baily Scott, Tom Powell, and Eddie Ford, who all got playing time and produced decent performances, despite results not showing that.

Won’t Give Teams Too Much Time and Space

Ratten claimed group morale was surprisingly good and players could see “the little wins.” The coach was also pleased with communication during match reviews, claiming everyone was on the same page when it came to the way they wanted the team to play.

He was also happy with the “education part” of the game. However, instead of doing things right for “60 or 80 minutes,” he wanted to see that for 120 minutes, claiming they only needed small improvements to their game.

The coach is determined to turn things around, though. He said they would work on not giving teams too much time and space and would not repeat the mistakes they made against the Bulldogs when they created half the forward entries of their hosts and had far fewer tackles than their opponents.
