Narkle’s Journey to Mid-Season Draft Interest
Quinton Narkle, a former Geelong midfielder, has caught the attention of multiple AFL clubs ahead of the 2023 Mid-Season Rookie Draft.
The 25-year-old participated in Richmond’s pre-season training and was close to securing a spot on the team during the Supplementary Selection Period (SSP).
However, the Tigers chose 21-year-old forward Kaelan Bradtke instead.
Narkle’s Performance in VFL Sparks Interest
In the VFL, Narkle has been performing well for Essendon in 2023, with an average of 18 disposals and five tackles per game.
As a result, several clubs, including West Coast, the Western Bulldogs, the Tigers, and the Bombers, have expressed interest in him.
According to AFL Media’s Josh Gabelich, Richmond wanted to add the Western Australian native to their roster after Jason Castagna’s retirement in February, but the AFL did not allow it.
Other Players to Watch in the Mid-Season Draft
Gabelich mentioned several other familiar names that could re-enter the AFL system during the mid-season draft on May 31.
Former Melbourne and Carlton defender Oscar McDonald is impressing for Williamstown in the VFL, along with fellow ex-Dees backman Marty Hore.
Gabelich revealed that several clubs are interested in McDonald, while Hore is also attracting attention.
Sam Naismith Attracts Interest from Collingwood and Richmond
Another player frequently mentioned in mid-season draft discussions is ruckman Sam Naismith.
The former Sydney Swan, who has struggled with ACL injuries throughout his career, is shining for Port Melbourne this year.
Gabelich suggests that Collingwood and Richmond could be interested in Naismith, a popular figure in Sydney.
Additional Names in the Mid-Season Draft Spotlight
Callum Brown, a Box Hill midfielder previously with Collingwood, and ex-Swan Ryley Stoddart are among the other names being considered ahead of the mid-season draft later this month.
