Bendigo Races

Bendigo Racetrack

Bendigo Racecourse hosts 25 racing meetings annually and has its own spring carnival, culminating in the popular Jayco Bendigo Cup, a critical Melbourne Cup lead-up race.

The Track

The entire track was renovated in 1998. The track has a circumference of 1,995 metres with a home straight that is 400 metres long.

Bendigo Racecourse has two chutes, one at 900 metres and the other at 1,000 metres.

The Tracks History

The inaugural club President was Mr J.A. Canton, who became one of Melbourne’s most prominent Magistrates.

The first Cup was held at Bendigo Racecourse in 1868 and was known as the Sandhurst Cup. It was won by a horse named Old England. The Bendigo Jockey Club switched the Bendigo Racecourse to left-hand racing in 1873, and a new grandstand was built on the opposite side of the course to replace the old one.

This stand was replaced in November 1902 with the stand that now stands on the Bendigo course.

The Bendigo Jockey Club is committed to providing Victoria’s most outstanding country racing experience.

The Bendigo Racecourse, located around 150 kilometres from Melbourne, is one of the most attractive racing sites in the state.
